Groove Security                                    

Groove security features enhance collaboration in the following ways:

• Groove enables secure, cross-firewall collaboration – Until now, allowing users to securely collaborate with others outside of their organisation meant enlisting IT resources to set up a VPN or alternative solution, such as a secured, shared web site. With Groove, users are empowered to collaborate through the firewall securely, with no extra effort required by IT. In this manner, Groove is enabling collaboration that would either not happen at all, or would happen in an insecure manner, perhaps through email.
  
  

• Security features are transparent to the user – The key to making security technology effective for an organization is widespread adoption and usage. Groove accomplishes this by making its heavy use of security transparent to end-users. All aspects of Groove security are “always on,” and do not allow users to “opt out” of their use.
  
  

• Groove encrypts all content on disk and over the network – Groove automatically encrypts all user accounts, workspaces, and their contents locally using 192-bit encryption. Furthermore, all content and activity within a workspace that is sent across the network is also encrypted and can only be decrypted by other members of the workspace.
  
  

• User driven workspace access control – Role based access control is a security feature that most organizations want, but, in practice, find unwieldy to implement. Traditionally, IT resources are required to move users into separate access control lists, which means that after initial setup most lists remained static, and inflexible. Once again, Groove pushes the power to the manager of a workspace, who decides which members are allowed which level of permissions. Who better to determine access than the line of business manager or information worker that is running the project? With Groove, setting the role of a workspace member and configuring access rights take just seconds.
